Dear Minister Sousa ,
USW 1-500 workers at ECP in Brantford have been locked in a bitter labour dispute since Aug 23 ,2008.
That is 2 years too long. Workers have made serious concession offers , but the company refuses to negotiate from its ultimatum position of 25% plus. How this blatant attack cannot be conceived as bargaining in bad faith by your Ministry is beyond comprehension.
Unionized Workers at ECP LP in Langley BC ratified a progressive labour agreement without incident in April 2010. and workers at the BC plant earned a higher rate of pay before any new increases kick in ! . BC Anti Scab Legislation that has been on the books of successive governments in that province appears to be the difference.
Ontario workers are being discriminated against compared to their counterparts in B.C, This same American employer who is in fact attempting to break this local union has polarized the need for Anti Scab Legislation in our province by their own actions. The tale of these two cities cannot be ignored.
I request that you table legislation immediately that would ban the use of replacement workers during a labour dispute in our province .
I and many others are following this dispute will hold you and your government responsible for your actions at the polls should you refuse to act..
Sincerely,
A concerned Ontario voter.
