ON FEBRUARY 9 , 2010 . Members of Brantfords City Council Voted 9 to1 to pass this resolution in an attempt to kickstart the negotiations and Prompt the Provincial Liberal Goverment to Act to protect workers.
On the Thursday before Thanksgiving, 2009 there were a grand total of 35 members of the Ontario Legislature available to vote on second reading of Bill 86, a private-member’s bill to ban replacement workers during a strike.
It was rejected by a mix of Liberal and Conservative MPP 's 25 to 10. Of the 10 who voted "yes" 9 were NDP members and 1 lone Liberal Dave Levac whom we had lobbied relentlessly in the media prior to the vote. It is curious why the former Liberal Whip could not convince just one other Liberal member to join him ?
